Moved pages? Get the new URLs indexed

After a migration, search engines need to learn the new URLs. IndexBoost submits them to Google and Bing automatically.

Context

Reading a redirect trace

  1. 01

    Aim for a single hop

Old URL straight to the final URL. Every extra hop adds latency and gives crawlers another chance to give up.

  2. 02

301 for moves, 302 for temporary

Permanent moves should use 301 or 308. A 302 tells search engines to keep the old URL, which is rarely what you want after a migration.

  3. 03

Fix internal links, not just redirects

If your own pages still link to the redirecting URL, update them to the final one. Redirects should catch outside links, not your own navigation.
