Context

Common IndexNow key problems

  1. 01

    The file must contain only the key

    No HTML, no quotes, no extra text. A trailing newline is fine.

  2. 02

    Serve it from the site root

    By default the file lives at /<key>.txt. A different path needs the keyLocation parameter, and only covers URLs under that path.

  3. 03

    Avoid redirects

    Serve the key file directly with a 200. Some endpoints won't follow redirects while validating ownership.
