What to look for
- 01
Canonical should match the final URL
A self-referencing canonical is the safe default. A canonical pointing at a different URL tells Google to prefer that one.
- 02
One canonical per page
Multiple conflicting canonical tags are ignored. CMS plugins and themes often add duplicates.
- 03
Check the rendered source too
This tool reads the HTML the server returns. If a script injects tags later, crawlers may see them only after rendering.
